How do you get the Nobel Prize in physics?
Wojciech Indyk
The 2024 Nobel Prizes in Physics and Chemistry were awarded to the creators of machine learning algorithms, highlighting the transformative impact of these technologies across various fields.
In this talk, I will briefly explain these algorithms and shed light on open-source projects related to large-scale data processing in bioinformatics, such as Glow, ADAM, and Hail.
These projects have facilitated breakthroughs, enabling researchers to analyze genomic data at unprecedented scales, with Hail being instrumental in precision medicine initiatives.
However, many computer science challenges remain, including scalability, efficient storage, and data integration.
As we navigate these challenges together, I encourage you to explore these projects and consider how your skills could contribute to future innovations. All of these projects are based on Apache Spark and Scala, so who knows? Maybe you could win a Nobel Prize in the future as well!
